Malaysian officials: Kedah state institutionalizes independent Chinese funding
According to Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao, Malaysia’s Kedah State Minister Mukri Mukri confirmed that the state government has decided to institutionalize funding for three independent secondary schools in the state, and each independent secondary school will receive at least RM80,000 (about 26,000 new Yuan) appropriation. This is also the first time that the Kedah state government has institutionalized such funding.
Mukeli said at a press conference after submitting the 2019 state budget bill at the Kedah State Legislative Assembly on the 11th local time that the institutionalization of the Independent China’s funding has been finalized and will be issued annually starting next year. He emphasized that although the funding details are not included in the budget, the state government has determined that it will allocate funds to the independent middle school every year, and the relevant executive councillors will announce the funding method and amount at an appropriate time each year.
He said that the authorities will adjust the funding for local independent high schools every year according to the financial situation. If the financial situation improves in the future, the amount of funding will increase. As for Chinese primary schools in the state, Mukeli believes that Chinese primary schools are mainly funded by the federal government. If the state government has the ability, it will also provide assistance, but this must depend on the state's financial situation.
