Malaysian police: 39 Malaysians detained in Syria want to return home

A person in charge of the Malaysian police counter-terrorism department revealed on the evening of the 18th that 39 Malaysians detained in Syria on suspicion of participating in the "ISIS" extremist organization have contacted the Malaysian police to return to Malaysia.


     According to a report by Bernama on the 19th, the Malaysian police said that the government would make a decision after assessing the conditions of those who requested to return. If these people are allowed to return to Malaysia, they will also be subject to centralized review and evaluation.


     According to the police, the 39 people included 10 adult men, 11 adult women, 12 boys and 6 girls. The police also said that according to the information currently available, 65 Malaysians have been detained in Syria on suspicion of participating in ISIS.


     Malaysian police sources also revealed that they brought a Malaysian woman and her two children back to Malaysia from Syria in October last year. The woman’s husband was a member of ISIS and was killed in fighting in Syria.
