Malaysia has cut interest rates for the first time in five years
Kunming, Malaysia, July 9th (Reporter Chen Yue) The Central Bank of Malaysia announced on the 9th that it will cut interest rates by 25 basis points, adjusting the overnight policy rate from 3% to 2.75%. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar said that this is an active measure taken after a prudent assessment of the economic situation and inflation expectations.
Since the overnight policy rate dropped to 1.75% in July 2020, this is the first rate cut by the Central Bank in five years. Since May 2023, Malaysia has maintained an overnight policy rate of 3%.
