Wang Yi meets with Myanmar’s Minister of International Cooperation, Kyaw Ding

On December 16, local time, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met in Luang Prabang, Laos, with Myanmar’s Minister of International Cooperation, Kyaw Ding, who attended the 4th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Wang Yi said that China and Myanmar share a "Paukphaw" friendship. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the traditional friendship between China and Myanmar has been continuously inherited and carried forward. China is willing to continue to be Myanmar's reliable partner, intensify high-level exchanges between the two sides, strengthen cooperation in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", and continuously enrich the connotation of China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperation.

Wang Yi pointed out that the two sides should actively implement the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, further improve the corridor planning, and steadily advance major cooperation projects. China supports Myanmar in adhering to the "Panglong spirit" to properly resolve the issue in northern Myanmar, and hopes that Myanmar will jointly maintain peace and stability in the China-Myanmar border area. Regarding the Rakhine State issue, Greece and Myanmar have maintained communication and cooperation with Bangladesh to realize the repatriation of the first batch of personnel as soon as possible. China is willing to continue to provide necessary support for this, and relevant UN agencies should also play a constructive role. Myanmar is the first place for Lancang-Mekong cooperation, and China is willing to work with Myanmar to make good use of this platform and jointly promote the development and prosperity of the sub-region.

Juddin said that the Myanmar side is satisfied with the development of the Myanmar-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and the relationship between the two countries is at the best period in history. State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will go to China to attend the second "Belt and Road" International Cooperation Summit Forum. Myanmar has set up a steering committee for the “Belt and Road” initiative to promote various cooperation under the framework of the initiative. Myanmar is committed to resolving domestic peace issues, and at the same time is willing to strengthen communication with all parties to push the displaced people to return to Rakhine State as soon as possible. We thank China for its strong support in this regard. The Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism has brought benefits to the people of all countries in the region, and Myanmar looks forward to deepening communication and cooperation with China under the mechanism.
