9 dead and 2 injured in attack on a police station in Rakhine State, Myanmar

The police in Rakhine State of Myanmar confirmed on the 10th that a police station in the state was attacked on the night of the 9th, resulting in 9 deaths, 2 injuries and 1 missing.


A person in charge of the Rakhine State police told Xinhua News Agency that around 23:20 local time on the 9th, a number of militants armed with light and heavy weapons launched an attack on a police station in Bang Najun Township in Rakhine State from three directions. , The police responded and the exchange of fire lasted about 30 minutes.


   The person in charge also said that the militants who launched the attack were members of the Arakan Army. The person in charge did not disclose the casualties of the attackers.


     The Rakhine Army, established in 2009, has fought the Myanmar National Defense Forces since 2015. On January 4 this year, 4 police posts in Buditang Township, northern Rakhine State, were attacked by the Arakan Army, resulting in 13 police officers dead and 9 police officers injured. On January 7, Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi said that the Arakan Army is a terrorist organization and must be eliminated effectively and quickly.
