The handover ceremony of COVID-19 vaccines and medical supplies from the Chinese government to Myanmar was held at Yangon International Airport on May 29, attended by Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai and Myanmar Health Minister Dai Kai Win, according to the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar. The aid includes 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, 13 million syringes of vaccine and two mobile nucleic acid testing vehicles.
Chen hai said the donation is another important measure taken by China to continuously help myanmar against the epidemic for the benefit of all Myanmar people, and also demonstrates the spirit of china-Myanmar community with a shared future. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has provided a large number of supplies including vaccines and liquid oxygen to Myanmar, including northern Myanmar, and further implemented President Xi Jinping's cooperation initiative on china-asean Health Shield. China has assisted Myanmar in the bottling and production of COVID-19 vaccines and helped myanmar increase vaccination coverage. We are glad to see that the epidemic in Myanmar has been effectively brought under control and people's work and life are gradually returning to normal.
In addition, China is continuing to push forward the projects of the Aid To Myanmar CDC and the training Center for medical personnel, and the two sides have signed an exchange of letters on the establishment of the aid to Myanmar Animal Disease Laboratory project. We also plan to launch a malaria eradication project along the China-Myanmar border. It is hoped that these measures will help Myanmar strengthen its public health system and its capacity to respond to major public health events.
