India plans to spend nearly $3.7 billion over 10 years to build a border wall along its 1,610-kilometer border with Myanmar, with the aim of preventing illegal activities such as smuggling.
New Delhi said earlier this year it would seal the border and end a decades-old visa-free border policy with Myanmar, citing national security concerns and maintaining demographics in the northeast.
The prime minister's office and the ministries of Home affairs, finance, foreign affairs and Information Broadcasting were not immediately available for comment, Reuters said. There was no response from Myanmar.
