Myanmar makes Chinese New Year a public holiday
On July 8, the Myanmar government announced that the Chinese Lunar New Year would be a national public holiday.
All circles in Myanmar attach importance to the Chinese Lunar New Year. In 2023 and 2024, Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing attended the Chinese New Year celebrations jointly held by the Chinese diaspora community in Myanmar and the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar in Yangon. During the event, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai discussed with Min Aung Hlaing the issue of making the Chinese Lunar New Year a public holiday in Myanmar.
