Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Medicinal Plants in the Mekong River Basin of Myanmar
ASEAN Headline News: According to the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, on January 20th, Chinese Ambassador Ma Jia attended the closing ceremony of the "Protection and Sustainable Utilization of Medicinal Plants in the Mekong River Basin of Myanmar" project, which was supported by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, in Naypyidaw. Myanmar's Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Chin Maung Yi, and representatives of traditional healers and experts, along with about 100 others, attended the event.
Ma Jia congratulated the project on achieving positive results and stated that China is willing to take the 10th anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation with Myanmar and help promote the sustainable development of traditional medicine in Myanmar, enhance the happiness and satisfaction of the general public, and push the construction of the China-Myanmar to a new level.
Chin Maung Yi said that the project provides important data support for the protection of medicinal plants, scientific research utilization, and the inheritance of traditional medicine in Myanmar. He sincerely thanked China for its support. The Myanmar side is willing to strengthen the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation with China and promote the sharing and utilization of research results.
This project, through on-site collection and systematic research, records new species of medicinal plants and conducts component analysis, helping to protect regional biodiversity and achieve green development.
