The President of Myanmar will visit Japan this month to end the 28-year history of the Myanmar leade
According to a report from Agence France-Presse on April 18, an official of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the 18th that Myanmar President U Thein Sein will visit Japan from the 20th to the 24th. This is the first visit to Japan by a head of Myanmar in 28 years.
Thein Sein will hold a leadership meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda on the 21st and participate in the Japan-Mekong Summit. A Myanmar official confirmed the visit information and stated that several other ministers are expected to accompany U Thein Sein on the visit.
The report also stated that, unlike the long-term sanctions by Western powers, Japan and Myanmar have maintained trade exchanges and political dialogue.
