An Indonesian Lion Air passenger plane lost contact this morning. Official: Search and rescue operat

According to Agence France-Presse, an aviation authority official stated that an Indonesian Lion Air passenger plane lost contact shortly after taking off from the capital Jakarta on the morning of the 29th. The official said that the search and rescue operation is ongoing.


    "Lion Air JT 610 has indeed lost contact." Indonesia AirNav spokesperson Yohanes Harry Douglas said in a statement.


     According to a report by Singapore’s Sin Chew Daily, at about 6:30 am local time on the 29th, an Indonesian Lion Air flight from Jakarta to Bangka Penang lost its connection 10 minutes after takeoff. Reuters quoted Indonesian search and rescue officials as saying that the flight had crashed.


     According to reports, the aircraft involved is Boeing's 737 Max-8 aircraft. At present, it is not clear how many passengers and crew are on board.
