A 6.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in the waters near Maluku, Indonesia

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 occurred in the waters near Maluku Province in eastern Indonesia on the 26th. There are no reports of casualties or property damage.


     According to the website of the Indonesian Bureau of Meteorology, Climate and Geophysics, the earthquake occurred at 15:12 Jakarta time (16:12 Beijing time). The epicenter was located in the waters near the Aru Islands in Maluku Province, with a focal depth of approximately 10 kilometers.


     The Indonesian Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics recorded that cities closer to the epicenter felt a slight tremor. The bureau did not issue a tsunami warning for the earthquake.


     The U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Information Network showed that the magnitude of this earthquake was 5.8 and the focal depth was about 10 kilometers.


     Indonesia is located in the Pacific Rim Seismic Belt, where thousands of large and small earthquakes occur every year. In September last year, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred in Dongara County, Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The earthquake and the resulting tsunami killed more than 2,000 people.
