Apple to invest $1 billion in Indonesia: Top Indonesian official

Indonesian Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani said on Wednesday that Apple plans to invest $1 billion in Indonesia. This is Apple's latest effort to lift a ban on iPhone16 sales in Indonesia.

Speaking at a conference in Jakarta, Mr Rossan said Indonesia wanted more investment if Apple decided to include the country in its supply chain. Apple has proposed a $100 million investment plan in Indonesia.

So far, the Indonesian government has still banned the sale of the iPhone16, on the grounds that phones sold in Indonesia contain at least 40 percent of locally made components, and Apple has not complied with this rule. Behind the reason, Indonesian media said that Apple's actual investment in Indonesia is less than the Indonesian government expected.

"Frankly, they have invested very little." Rossan urged Apple to invest more in Indonesia, especially given that the country is a huge market for Apple products. He hopes Apple's increased investment will create more jobs and make Indonesia a key player in Apple's global value chain.
