In order to promote exchanges in the field of marine fishery science and technology between my country and the “Belt and Road” countries, from April 8th to 14th, Li Jian, deputy director of the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, led a delegation to the Philippines and Brunei for scientific and technological cooperation.
Deputy Director Li Jian and his group of 10 people were first invited to participate in the 12th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum, and made 4 oral reports and 6 poster presentations respectively, demonstrating my country’s new species breeding and epidemics in marine aquaculture. The latest achievements in the fields of science and biological security, multi-nutrition integrated aquaculture, and the concept of sustainable aquaculture development, and in-depth exchanges with participating experts from various countries in related fields. During the meeting, Deputy Director Li Jian and Eduardo Gongona, Director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines conducted in-depth exchanges and reached consensus on further cooperation in fishery science and technology. After that, Deputy Director Li Jian and his entourage visited the University of the Philippines at Visayas, the Fisheries Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources of Brunei, and the Brunei Aquaculture Development Center. Deputy Director Li Jian introduced the basic situation of the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute to the visiting units, especially the achievements in marine fishery technology and industrial support, and focused on the precedents and experiences of the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute's international cooperation in marine aquaculture. He said that the “Belt and Road” countries have a vast space and huge potential for cooperation in marine fisheries. He hoped that the two sides will seize the opportunity to carry out all-round cooperation in the fields of marine aquaculture seed breeding, ecological aquaculture models, and disease prevention and control technologies. Coordinated development and common progress in intercommunication and mutually beneficial cooperation. The visiting units all stated that the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, as an internationally renowned marine fishery scientific research institution, has made remarkable achievements in the field of marine fishery science and technology. During the visit, the Brunei Marine Aquaculture Technology R&D Base, which was jointly constructed by the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute and Brunei Aquaculture Development Center, was officially established, marking that the fishery technology cooperation between the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute and Brunei has entered a new stage.
Through participating in academic conferences, field investigations and technical guidance, the expert team has a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the characteristics of fishery resources, fishery technology, industrial policies, aquaculture industry status and development plans of Asian countries, especially the Philippines and Brunei. A number of consensuses were reached with visiting units on in-depth cooperation in marine fishery technology and industry, which strongly promoted the implementation of projects such as the "One Belt One Road" tropical countries aquaculture scientific and technological cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
