The new President of the Philippines, Marcos, has been sworn in
Philippine President Ferdinand Romuldez Marcos took the official oath of office as the 17th president of the Philippines at 12:00 am on June 30 at the National Museum of the Philippines.
Marcos met with outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte at makanang Palace at around 10:40 a.m. and they had a brief conversation.
Marcos was then driven to the National Museum of the Philippines, where the inauguration took place, for a brief military parade.
Marcos was sworn in at 12 noon by Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, placing his hand on a Bible. He then delivered his inaugural address.
About 30,000 people watched marcos's inauguration, said Col. Jean Fajardo, spokesman for the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Marcos, 64, won more than 31 million votes in national elections on May 9. The Philippine constitution provides for a six-year presidential term.
