The Canavon Volcano in the Philippines erupted explosively
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, at 5:51 a.m. local time on the 8th, the Canlaon Volcano in central Philippines erupted explosively, sending out a column of volcanic ash as high as 4,000 meters.
The Canavon volcano experienced an explosive eruption in December 2024. At that time, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised the volcano's alert level from 2 to 3, indicating "intensified magmatic activity". Subsequently, the Philippine government urgently evacuated tens of thousands of residents around the volcano.
At present, the alert level of the Kanlaon volcano remains at level 3. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology classifies volcanic alert levels from low to high as 0 to 5. Level 0 indicates "no alert", and level 5 means "the volcano is erupting".
Cumlaon Volcano is located on Negros Island in the central part of the Philippines. It is one of the many active volcanoes in the Philippines and is also part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
