Confucius Institute at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore launches new book on practical

According to Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao, the book “Practical Writing in Chinese” published by the Confucius Institute at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore invited Kou Hong, a visiting scholar from the Confucius Institute in China, to write it over three years, hoping to contribute to the exchanges between Singapore and China. The book is now officially on sale.

"Practical Chinese Writing" published by the Confucius Institute is the fourth book in the academic series of the college. The book is written by citing a large number of local and Chinese examples. It analyzes the writing methods of seven categories of applications including official letters, speeches and press releases, and combines explanations and demonstrations to help readers understand easily.

When writing Chinese e-mails, are you still used to start with "dear"? For example, "Dear Mr. Wang" or "Dear Teacher Li". The newly released book "Chinese Practical Writing" points out that this kind of writing is too intimate, and it will appear to be insufficiently respected when used when communicating with people who are not intimate, and this statement also has a literal translation from English.

Liang Bingfu, the dean of the Confucius Institute, introduced that this book was originally written as a textbook for the practical writing course of the college's Chinese International Education Diploma. However, it can also provide references for individuals and groups that have cultural, trade or political contacts with China, and enhance their confidence and ability in communicating with China.

"We published this book in the hope that it can make some small contributions to further deepen the mutual understanding between the two countries."

Xu Fangda, Senior Minister of State Affairs of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Education, attended the new book launch conference recently. He said in an interview that the government will continue to maintain close cooperation with China in investment, economics and trade through the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Business China and different business groups. . The book "Practical Chinese Writing" will help local businessmen to be more appropriate when communicating with Chinese companies and officials.

Xu Fangda further pointed out that the Ministry of Education also hopes to work with community partners and parents to encourage students to read more of these books, so as to avoid translating English into Chinese when actually using them.

"I personally believe that people-to-people exchanges will pave the way for the future. It may not be economically effective right now. But if our young people know China better, Chinese young people will know Singapore better in the future. There will be opportunities for cooperation."
