Thailand's "Phoenix" salvaged ashore and carried out investigations

When inspecting the salvage of the "Phoenix" that was sunk in the cruise ship capsizing accident in Phuket, Thailand, Minister of Tourism and Sports Willasa said on the 18th that Thailand will transfer the "Phoenix" ashore and block the hull for investigation.


   Willassa said that the "Phoenix" cabin will be transported to the dock on the same day after the water accumulated in the cabin is emptied, and the hull will be inspected by experts. He said that the hull of the "Phoenix" was an important piece of evidence in the shipwreck accident. In order to conduct a rigorous investigation, no party involved in the case was allowed to access this evidence. The Thai government will completely blockade the hull and send security personnel to guard it 24 hours a day. Anyone who enters to collect evidence or clean the hull must be approved by the police and investigators.


Li Chunlin, Counselor and Consul General of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, who inspected the salvage with Willasa, said that in recent times, Thailand has introduced many measures to strengthen tourism safety, convenience and service for foreign tourists.    On the afternoon of July 5 this year, the cruise ships "Phoenix" and "Princess Aisha" encountered a severe storm in the waters near Phuket, Thailand. The ships capsized and sank. All 42 people on the "Princess Aisha" were rescued. There were 101 people on board the "Phoenix". Of the 87 Chinese tourists, 40 were rescued and 47 died.
