Zhang Jun wants to run for vice chairman of the World Badminton Federation and will compete with Ind

Recently, the chief operating officer of the Asian Badminton Federation broke the news on Twitter that the World Badminton Federation will run for the new vice chairman of the BWF. This time, Zhang Jun from China, Patama from Thailand and Anton from Indonesia are participating in the election. And this time, no matter who is elected as the vice chairman, it will be an Asian.

In May 2018, Salazar resigned as the vice chairman of the World Badminton Federation, which resulted in the position being vacant. According to the regulations of the World Badminton Federation, it happened to be running for this time this year.

According to the new strategic direction of the BWF, it is to focus on Asia. In the next few years, China will obviously become the market that both parties will focus on. World Badminton Federation Secretary-General Lund made no secret of his importance to the Chinese badminton market. In his view, even if many countries were close to China, they still could not shake China's position as the number one market at that time. Guangzhou is also the center of China's badminton sports. In 2013, Guangzhou hosted the Badminton World Championships. It has a very large audience. From 2018 to 2021, the World Badminton Tour finals will be held in Guangzhou.

Chinese badminton team members have also participated in the work of the World Badminton Federation. From 1934 to the present, people from the United Kingdom, South Korea, Thailand and other countries and regions have served as the chairman. Lu Shengrong from China used to be the chairman of the International Badminton Federation from 1993 to 2001, and was the only Chinese among the 19 chairpersons.

On May 20, 2017, the World Badminton Federation Congress was held on the Gold Coast. At the meeting, the BWF Chairman, the First Vice Chairman, and the BWF Board of Directors were re-elected. The current chairman Larson was re-elected successfully, and the vice chairman was elected by Peruvian Salazar. Tang Jiuhong, a former member of the National Badminton Association and vice chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association, was successfully elected as a council member of the Badminton Federation.

Since Salazar resigned as vice chairman of the World Badminton Federation in May 2018, this position has been vacant. Zhang Jun is very hopeful that he can become the vice chairman of the World Badminton Federation.
