Mr. Chookiat Ophaswongse, honorary president of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, said that Thailand has raised its rice export target for 2023 to 8.5 million tons, an increase of 500,000 tons from previous expectations. The Thai government had earlier estimated rice exports this year at 8 million metric tons.

In the January-September 2023 period, Thailand sold 6.08 million tons of rice, up 12 percent from the same period last year. But with India, the world's largest rice exporter, lifting its export ban, Mr. Chu expects exports from Thailand, the world's second-largest exporter, to fall to 7.5 million metric tons next year.
