Bank Negara Malaysia: Inflation is under control in the second half of the year
Bank Negara Malaysia announced on the 11th that it will maintain the Overnight Policy Rate at 3%. The National Bank also predicted that inflation would remain under control in the second half of the year.
According to Bank Negara, in the first five months of this year, Malaysia's core and headline inflation rates were both 1.8%. For the full year, Bank Negara expects Malaysia's headline inflation rate to remain at 2 to 3.5 per cent and core inflation at 2 to 3 per cent.
However, Bank Negara also sees the risk of inflation rising further if the government further adjusts its subsidy policy and price restraint policy, or if global commodity prices and financial markets fluctuate.
