Thailand's cabinet has approved the second phase of the China-Thailand high-speed rail project
Thai Prime Minister's Office spokesman Gillayuth revealed at a press conference on the 4th that the Thai Cabinet meeting has passed the second phase of the project resolution of the Thai and Chinese governments to cooperate in the development of the high-speed rail system.
The project involves the planned construction of a high-speed rail line from Bangkok to Nong Khai. The second phase of the project route is from Korat Ratchasima to Nong Khai, a total length of 357.12 kilometers, with a total investment of 34,135,142 million baht (about 72.5 billion yuan).
Gillayuth said that Thai Prime Minister Pethongtan specifically instructed the Thai Ministry of Transport to closely follow the progress of the project.
The second phase of the project (Khorat to Nong Khai section) has previously been evaluated by the Thai Ministry of Transport. Following approval at this meeting, it is expected that a tender process will soon be launched to select the project contractor. The Thai Ministry of Transport plans to officially start construction in 2025, with the goal of having the project open to traffic and operational by 2031.
