The conflict between Cambodia and Thailand has endangered world cultural heritage

Many cultural sites within Cambodia have been damaged in the conflict, raising concerns from the international community. After the UNESCO issued a statement on the 10th, both Cambodia and Thailand also made statements on the 11th.

The UNESCO issued a statement the day before, expressing deep concern over the escalation of tensions along the border between Cambodia and Thailand, especially in the area surrounding the World Heritage Site of Phnom Bakheng. The statement called for urgent protection of various forms of cultural heritage in that area and stated that the organization has informed all relevant parties of the geographical coordinates of the sites on the World Heritage List and those of national significance.
