Thailand adjusts fuel prices
MANITOUANG, Thailand, March 17 (LIM YINGMIN, LIUYUBO) - Thailand's Energy Minister Atapong said on March 17 that due to the continuous rise in international oil prices, Thailand will adjust domestic fuel prices starting from March 18. Specifically, the price of diesel will increase by 0.5 baht per liter, the price of gasoline will increase by 1 baht per liter, and the price of E20 gasoline will decrease by 0.79 baht per liter.
Atapong pointed out that the government has implemented an oil price cap for 15 consecutive days. As global energy prices continue to rise, the pressure of related subsidies has increased. The government has decided to make a moderate adjustment to domestic oil prices.
Atapong said that the increase in diesel prices is expected to reduce the daily loss of the fuel fund by approximately 35 million baht. In addition, the government will strengthen supervision over each link of the fuel supply chain.
He emphasized that currently, Thailand has sufficient oil reserves and the relevant departments are accelerating efforts to solve the problems in the transportation sector. He also called on the public to view the oil price adjustment rationally. However, he also pointed out that currently, the demand for vehicle fuel is significantly higher than the normal level. If the public can jointly save on fuel usage, it will not only help extend the usage time of the existing reserves, but also reduce individual expenditures.
