Wang Yi meets with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh

On December 16, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Luang Prabang, Laos, with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh who attended the 4th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.


    Wang Yi said that under the direct leadership of the leaders of the two countries, China-Vietnam relations have maintained a good momentum of development. General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong exchanged historic visits last year and made a top-level design for advancing China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperation under the new situation. The strategic consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries should be implemented at all levels of the two countries to lay a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations. The common interests of China and Vietnam far outweigh their differences. The two sides should continue to strengthen strategic mutual trust and deepen strategic cooperation. This is in full compliance with the fundamental interests of the two parties, the two countries, and the two peoples.


    Wang Yi pointed out that looking forward to next year, the two sides should maintain the positive momentum of high-level exchanges, fully tap the huge potential of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, step up the strategic alignment of "One Belt, One Road" and "Two Corridors and One Circle", and promote substantial progress in interconnection cooperation projects. . We are willing to strengthen communication, coordination and mutual support with Vietnam under the Lancang-Mekong cooperation framework to further enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. Both sides should properly manage and handle maritime issues through friendly consultations to create a good environment for the development of bilateral relations.


    Fan Pingming said that looking back on 2018, the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership has achieved gratifying achievements. The leaders of the two countries and all levels maintain close exchanges. The scale of bilateral trade has grown rapidly, and the trade structure has become more balanced. Vietnam is willing to work with China to prepare for the high-level visits between the two countries next year, make good use of the bilateral cooperation and coordination mechanism, intensify communication and coordination in the Lancang-Mekong cooperation, and jointly properly handle maritime issues, so as to promote the continuous development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
