3.4GW! Vietnam builds first offshore wind power project
A huge wind farm called KeGa with a capacity of 3.4GW is planned to be built in Vietnam’s Binh Thuan province, valued at nearly 9 billion U.S. dollars, excluding investment in connecting to the grid. The project will be divided into several 600MW for phased installation.
EE Chairman Ian Hatton said that the Binh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee is very supportive of the project and has submitted the document to the government for deliberation. On June 25, 2018, the government issued an official letter No.6964/VPCP-QHQT according to the report of EnterprizeEnergy.
According to Ian Hatton, with the support of government bills, a reasonable PPA agreement, and the use of proven wind turbine technology provided by reputable contractors for manufacturing and installation, the International Bank will ensure that there are sufficient funds to develop the project.
VEA Chairman Tran Viet Ngai said that the KeGa project will be Vietnam’s first offshore wind power project. The first phase of the project is expected to be put into use in 2022. The current feed-in tariff for projects put into commercial operation by November 2021 is 9.8 cents per kilowatt-hour.
"The successful development of this highly potential, modern and feasible project will provide a large amount of clean energy to the Vietnamese power system and contribute to future energy security and environmental protection. The KeGa offshore wind power project will bring benefits to the Vietnamese economy Breakthrough should be put on the itinerary as soon as possible.” TranVietNgai emphasized.
