Vietnam's agricultural exports set a new record in 2024
According to the Vietnamese government website, Vietnam's total exports of agricultural, forestry and water products reached a new record of $62.5 billion in 2024, up 18.7% from 2023. The agricultural surplus reached a record high of $17.9 billion, an increase of 46.8%, accounting for 71% of the total surplus of the country, and the total surplus of the country was about $25 billion.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs disclosed the above information at a meeting on the work summary for 2024 and the work plan for 2025 held in Hanoi on December 27.
Among the total exports of agriculture, forestry and fisheries of US $62.5 billion, the export value of main agricultural products reached US $32.8 billion, up by 22.4%; the export value of feeding reached US $533.6 million, up by 6.5%; the export value of main forest products reached US $17.28 billion, up by 19.4%; and the export value of aquatic products reached US $10.07 billion, up by 12.2%.
Vietnam exported more than US $3 billion worth of goods in seven categories (1 more than in 2023), including: timber and wood products reached US $16.2 billion, an increase of 20.3%; Fruits and vegetables reached 7.12 billion US dollars, up 27.1%; Rice reached $5.75 billion, up 23%; Coffee $5.48 billion, up 29.1%; Cashews were $4.38 billion, up 20.2 percent, frozen shrimp $3.86 billion, up 14 percent, and rubber $3.46 billion, up 19.6 percent.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam has set a number of targets for 2025, among which the total export of agricultural, forestry and water products is $64-64 billion, the forest coverage rate is maintained in the range of 42.02%, and the proportion of rural households with access to standard clean water is 60%.
