Brunei Government: China has become Brunei’s largest source of tourists

According to data released by the Brunei government a few days ago, China has become Brunei's largest source of tourists in the first quarter of this year.

Statistics show that in the first quarter, there were 70,729 international tourists arriving in the country via Brunei International Airport, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%. China has become Brunei’s largest source of tourists, and its share in Brunei’s international tourists has risen to 26.2%, compared with 18.5% in the same period in 2017.

Brunei's top five sources of international tourists are Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore. The five major sources of international tourists contributed 70% of the inbound international tourists to Brunei in the first quarter of this year.

From a regional perspective, the number of tourists entering Brunei from East Asia has maintained a relatively high growth rate, while the number of visitors from Europe, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and ASEAN has declined.

From the perspective of travel purposes, leisure and vacation are still the main purpose of tourists entering Brunei, accounting for 48.8%.
