On the morning of December 31, 2024, China Southern Airlines Flight CZ5509 took off from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, bound for Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei.

This is the first time for China Southern to use C909 aircraft (formerly ARJ21, hereinafter referred to as "C909") to fly international passenger routes, which not only marks the first time for China Southern C909 aircraft to cross the national border and start a new journey of cross-border international route operation, but also sets a record for the longest flight of China Southern C909 aircraft to fly routes of nearly 2,400 kilometers.
