Members of the Parliament of Brunei support the national budget proposal.
ASEAN Headline Article - Legislative Assembly Member of Brunei, Rahman, expressed support for the national budget proposal put forward by the Brunei government, while calling for enhanced fiscal management, optimized investment strategies, and expanded participation of the private sector to accelerate the economic transformation of Brunei Darussalam.
According to the Borneo Bulletin, on the fourth day of the 22nd Legislative Council's first session held on March 15th, this legislator congratulated the Prime Minister's Office Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Lim Ming Hock, for submitting a budget for the fiscal year 2026/2027 that he described as comprehensive and forward-looking.
He pointed out that the budget outlined major achievements, future directions and strategic priorities, aiming to achieve sustainable, dynamic and inclusive economic growth, while improving people's well-being, and maintaining national stability in accordance with Brunei's 2035 Vision.
However, he also expressed concerns about the youth unemployment rate. He noted that although the overall unemployment rate remained at a relatively manageable level of around 5%, the youth unemployment rate is expected to rise to 18.3% in 2024, higher than the 16.8% of the previous year.
