Cambodia plans to introduce laws to curb telecom crime and fake news

Cambodian officials said on the 13th that the Cambodian Prime Minister announced that he is drafting a draft law to sanction telecommunication crimes and spreading fake news to deal with telecommunication crimes and fake news incidents.


     According to Cambodian officials on the 13th, Prime Minister Hun Sen met with domestic and foreign media reporters in Phnom Penh on the evening of the 11th, saying that many countries in the world have issued laws and regulations on telecommunication crimes and fake news, and Cambodia should also formulate relevant laws in accordance with national conditions.


     Hun Sen said that relevant government departments should study and introduce laws that are consistent with existing laws and meet national conditions to sanction people suspected of telecommunications crimes and wanton fabrication of fake news.


     Hun Sen also stated that in order to regulate the development of the e-commerce industry, the "E-commerce Law" will be promulgated this year. At present, the law has entered the review stage of the cabinet's professional agencies.


     Public information shows that on November 26 last year, 4 telecom fraud dens in Ta Keo Province were destroyed, and more than 200 telecom fraud suspects were arrested.
