The Cambodian flight returned to Wuhan due to a sudden pressure relief failure

The plane carrying more than 200 tourists from Hubei departed from Siem Reap Airport in Cambodia to Wuhan Tianhe Airport. Thirty-five minutes later, the engine suddenly failed and the bleed air failed. The passenger plane was emergency relieved at an altitude of 10,000 meters, and the oxygen mask above the seat fell off, causing the passengers to panic. Fortunately, the passenger plane safely returned to Siem Reap Airport, and the passengers on board then took another passenger plane and arrived safely at Tianhe Airport yesterday morning.

Mentioned this experience, passenger Ms. Liu said that her family of seven was on the passenger plane, and she was really frightened at the time. Fortunately, there was no danger, and finally returned home safely.

Sudden failure of airliner in the air

Ms. Liu is from Wuhan. On March 12, she and her husband took their 5-year-old daughter and a group of 7 people, and traveled to Cambodia with the group. Along with them, there are more than 200 tourists and travel agency staff from Hubei.

On the evening of the 16th, the tour group boarded the Lanmei Airlines flight LQ876 at Siem Reap Airport and embarked on the return journey. Ms. Liu, her husband and daughter were sitting in the front position of the cabin. According to the original plan, the flight should depart at 9:40 p.m. local time and arrive at Wuhan Tianhe Airport at 2:05 a.m. Beijing time yesterday. After boarding, the flight was delayed for 25 minutes due to a physical conflict with passengers on the plane, but it finally took off.

About 35 minutes later, the airliner entered the stratosphere, most of the passengers began to fall asleep, and Ms. Liu's daughter fell asleep. Suddenly, Ms. Liu felt a slight bump in the fuselage. The flight attendant announced that the plane encountered a draft, and passengers were requested to wear seat belts. After a while, the oxygen mask above the passenger seat fell off. Everyone is a little bit confused and don't know what happened.

After the flight attendant demonstrated how to wear the mask, the passengers were asked to put on the oxygen mask. A flight attendant helped Ms. Liu's daughter put on a mask. "The flight attendant's expression was a bit nervous and flustered, and we were also quite scared." Ms. Liu said.

The flight attendant told the passengers that the passenger plane had a mechanical failure and had begun to return. Ms. Liu and her family felt that the plane was descending, her throat was a little sore, her ears were very uncomfortable, and she smelled a burnt smell.

Return home safely and change plane

Ms. Liu introduced that about 10 minutes after the passengers put on the oxygen masks, the flight attendants signaled everyone to take off the masks. At this time, the plane was stable and her discomfort disappeared.

During the return flight, Ms. Liu’s husband asked the flight attendants why they had to return to Siem Reap Airport instead of landing at the nearest airport? The flight attendant replied that Siem Reap Airport is the nearest airport.

About half an hour later, the passenger plane landed safely at Siem Reap Airport, and a big rock in Ms. Liu's heart finally landed. When disembarking, she noticed that there were many fire trucks parked around the passenger plane. "Although the process of turning back is relatively smooth, it was the first time I encountered the oxygen mask falling off and I was very scared." Ms. Liu said. After the other Wuhan passenger on the flight got off the plane, he posted a Weibo: "Keep smiling, life is a trivial matter except life and death."

More than 200 tourists from Hubei returned to the Siem Reap Airport terminal to wait. More than three hours later, the airline arranged for them to board another Lanmei Airlines passenger plane. At 4:08 am local time yesterday, the flight departed again and arrived at Wuhan Tianhe Airport at 8:08 am Beijing time.

Crew calm and resolve danger

The Chutian Metropolis Daily reporter learned that the accident flight was a charter flight from Wuhan to and from Siem Reap, and the aircraft type was Airbus A321. The charter flight is targeted at the Wuhan tourism market and involves multiple travel agencies. At the time of the incident, there were 214 tourists and travel agency staff on board.

A tour group leader Wang Jiahui introduced that more than half an hour after the flight took off, there was pressure relief in the cabin, the seat oxygen mask fell off, and the plane returned immediately. In the whole process, except for a slight bump, there was not much abnormality in the plane. The passenger's emotions were relatively stable, and there was no loss of control.

Ms. Li (surname) of a travel agency who participated in this charter flight told reporters that Lanmei Airlines is a joint venture between China and Cambodia. The flight was opened at the beginning of this year as a long-term charter flight. The travel agency has signed an agreement with Lanmei Airlines, which stipulates the aircraft type and service life. Yesterday, Lanmei Airlines made an explanation to the travel agency on the matter: 35 minutes after the plane took off, the engine suffered a sudden bleed air failure, which caused the cabin to be depressurized. The crew responded calmly and handled properly in accordance with the flight crew operating manual, and the aircraft returned safely.
