The Cambodian government reaffirmed that it will not sell Phnom Penh International Airport
On the morning of May 16th, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manay made a clear statement on the ownership of Phnom Penh International Airport when attending the 80th anniversary celebration of the National Police held by the Cambodian Police Academy. Hong Manai emphasized that the Cambodian government has never formulated and will never formulate a policy for the sale of Phnom Penh International Airport.
Hong Manai said, "I hereby solemnly confirm that the government has no plan to sell Phnom Penh International Airport, either now or in the past." This position needs to be clearly reaffirmed today. He pointed out that retaining the airport would, on the one hand, serve as a backup facility for the new international airport to ensure the safety of air transportation; On the other hand, it continues to serve the people as an important national property.
He particularly emphasized that Phnom Penh International Airport, as an important historical heritage of the former King Norodom Sihanouk, will be protected as a historical site. This measure not only concerns the maintenance of important infrastructure, but also reflects respect for the country's history and collective memory. This move by the government demonstrates its firm commitment to safeguarding public interests and protecting the country's cultural heritage.
According to China News Service, Dechong International Airport in Cambodia is expected to commence operations on July 10th, while the currently operating Phnom Penh International Airport will be completely closed at that time.
