On January 25, the 2019 "China-Laos Tourism Year" jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos opened in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

The cultural tourism industry, as a bridge for non-governmental friendship, has become an important channel to consolidate the national opinions of China and Laos and promote the “Belt and Road” initiative. The 2019 "China-Laos Tourism Year" is an important measure for the two countries to further promote non-governmental exchanges, benefit the people of the two countries, and provide impetus for the development of Laos tourism.

Luo Shugang, Minister of Culture and Tourism of China, stated that the “China-Laos Tourism Year” is the first tourism year held by China and ASEAN countries after the 2017 “China-ASEAN Tourism Cooperation Year”. The old "people-to-people bond" builds a new platform to inject new vitality into the building of a strategically meaningful community of shared future between China and Laos.

Song Sai, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Deputy Prime Minister of the Government, said that through the "China-Laos Tourism Year", more Chinese tourists will be promoted to visit Laos and the people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries will be pushed to a new height.

It is understood that the opening ceremony was undertaken by Beijing Xinglv International Media Co., Ltd., China Oriental Performing Arts Group Co., Ltd., China Symphony Orchestra and Lao artists jointly performed theatrical performances. The China-Laos tourism industry held a business meeting, which laid the foundation for the in-depth cooperation in culture and tourism between the two countries. According to the work plan of the two parties, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos have reached a consensus that in 2019, exchanges and cooperation projects such as tourism promotion, forums, training, theatrical performances, and food promotion will be held throughout the year. Local tourism authorities and tourism companies set up a dialogue platform to promote the joint design of tourism routes between the two parties, build a Laos tourism brand, and promote the growth of two-way tourism between China and Laos.
