The volume of freight transported by China-Laos railway exceeded 50 million tons
A China-Laos Railway international cargo train loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables departed from Kunming, China, for Laos on Jan 2, marking that the freight volume of the China-Laos railway has exceeded 50 million tons since its operation on Dec 3, 2021.
The China-Laos railway runs 1,035 kilometers from Kunming in China in the north to Vientiane in Laos in the south. Since the opening of the operation, the railway departments of China and Laos have strengthened the organization of cargo transportation, improved transportation capacity and efficiency, and the daily number of cross-border cargo trains has increased from 2 in the initial period to 18 at present, and the tonnage of trains has increased from 2,000 tons to 2,500 tons.
Relying on the China-Laos railway, the railway authorities of China and Laos have made innovations in cross-border goods transport products, operated more than 1,670 international cargo trains on the Lancang-Mekong Express Line, launched international freight train products such as the Beijing-Yunnan Lancang-Mekong Line and the Shanghai-Yunnan Lancang-Mekong Line, and actively explored new modes of international transport such as the China-Laos Railway + China-Europe Railway.
