Cambodia and Laos have pledged to strengthen bilateral ties

  

Hanoi (VNA) - Lao President Thongloun Sisouly paid a state visit to Cambodia on April 23-24, according to a VNA correspondent in Phnom Penh. During this period, the two countries have pledged to promote bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation.

On the afternoon of the 23rd, Cambodian Prime Minister Khon Manay met with Lao President Thongloun Sisouly at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, stressing the maintenance of close and long-term friendly relations and unity between the two countries, as well as cooperation in the fields of energy, connectivity, border issues, combating transnational crime, national defense security and people-to-people exchanges.

Hun Manay said that the energy industry plays an important role in ensuring Cambodia's national energy security and competitiveness in the region and the world. He therefore suggested that the Lao side find appropriate measures to ensure a sustainable and timely supply of electricity to Cambodia.

On the border issue, Lao President Thongloun Sisouly stressed that Laos is ready to cooperate with Cambodia on the basis of the 2023 Cambodia-Laos border demarcation Agreement. He stressed that in the past eight months, under the leadership of the new Royal Government headed by Prime Minister Khon Manay, Cambodia has stabilized politically and is moving towards security, peace, economic growth and improved living standards.

Thongloun Sisouly also thanked Cambodia for its continued support for the Lao 2024 ASEAN chairmanship, stressing that Laos will learn from the success of the Cambodian 2023 ASEAN chairmanship and hopes to welcome Cambodian leaders to Laos in the future, especially to attend the ASEAN Summit to be held in October.

During his visit to Cambodia, Thongloun Sisouly met with the President of the Cambodian National Assembly, Khun Sodal. Calls on the Cambodian National Assembly to share its experience with the Lao National Assembly. He also called for strong cooperation between the two national parliaments to bring benefits to the two countries and their peoples, while stressing that Cambodia-Laos relations are valuable assets for the two peoples.

Khun Sodari stressed that Thongloun Sisuri's visit to Cambodia is of great significance and will help consolidate and expand the friendly good-neighborly relations and close solidarity between the two countries, especially the elevation of bilateral relations to "comprehensive and long-term strategic partnership" will bring common benefits to the two countries.

In addition, Lao President Thongloun Sisouly also met with Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party and President of the Cambodian Senate, to exchange views on many agendas.
