The 2025 International Forum on Recycled Metals in Southeast Asia was held in Bangkok.
The 2025 International Forum on Recycled Metals in Southeast Asia, hosted by the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and organized by the Recycled Metals Branch and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Nonferrous Metals Industry Committee, was held in Bangkok from June 18 to 20. A total of 650 representatives from 26 countries and regions attended the forum, and 29 enterprises from 6 countries participated in the exhibition. During the forum, various activities were held, including the China-Thailand Recycled Metals Industry Matchmaking Conference, thematic forums, and roundtable discussions.
The forum was themed "Gathering Green Metals to Write a New Chapter for ASEAN". Experts at the forum discussed and exchanged views on topics such as industrial policies and market trends, industrial layout trends, investment strategies, trade challenges and countermeasures.
Zhang Xiaoxiao, the counselor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, said in her speech that China has become Thailand's largest trading partner. Chinese enterprises have created a large number of jobs in Thailand and helped thousands of Thai youth master important technical skills. Investments in advanced manufacturing, new energy, information and communication technology, and other fields have effectively promoted the transformation and upgrading of Thailand's industries.
Pattharapon, deputy director of the Industrial Economic Bureau of the Ministry of Industry of Thailand, Lin Chukin, chairman of the Thai Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and Veerachai, chief advisor of the Thai Recyclers Association, delivered speeches. They said that the forum provided an important opportunity for exchanges among Thailand, ASEAN member states and China on public policy guidance, circular economy policies, international cooperation, trends in the nonferrous metals market, current and future issues, and provided useful case studies to strengthen institutional relations, promote practical results and facilitate multi-dimensional mutual learning.
Wang Jiwei, deputy secretary-general of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and vice president and secretary-general of the Recycled Metals Branch, introduced the positive progress and achievements made in the global recycled nonferrous metals industry since 2024. He pointed out that the global recycled nonferrous metals industry still faces challenges such as unbalanced regional development and insufficient industrial innovation; accelerated changes in policy trends and trade rules, and increased compliance thresholds for international investment. To address these challenges, Wang Jiwei proposed four initiatives: further deepening global cooperation, further strengthening innovation cooperation, further deepening mutual recognition of international standards, and further improving the industrial level.
To further establish a mechanism for investment cooperation in the recycled metals industry between China and Thailand and promote communication and cooperation, a China-Thailand Recycled Metals Industry Matchmaking Conference was held on the afternoon of June 18. Relevant officials and representatives from Thai enterprises discussed and exchanged views on policy changes in Thailand, technical cooperation and investment opportunities, as well as the current situation of Chinese recycled metals enterprises' investment in Thailand, industrial changes, policy demands, regulatory dynamics in Thailand and future cooperation directions.
During the forum, roundtable discussions were held with the themes of "The Future of Green Metal Recycling" and "The New Ecosystem of Recycled Metal Trade". Representatives from enterprises discussed topics such as opportunities and strategies for overseas market investment, policy matching and compliance issues in cross-border development practices, global trade flows and supply chain restructuring of recycled nonferrous metals, the impact of additional tariffs on the industrial landscape and how enterprises can avoid risks, and the impact of supply variables in emerging markets on the global industrial landscape.
