The 25th China-EU Summit was held in Beijing.

The ASEAN Headlines: According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, on the afternoon of July 24th, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council of China co-chaired the 25th China-EU Summit with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Premier Li Qiang stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU 50 years ago, bilateral relations have generally developed steadily and achieved fruitful results. China is willing to continue to play the leading role of high-level exchanges with the EU, enhance strategic communication, and constantly improve the stability, constructiveness, mutual benefit and global nature of China-EU relations. Li Qiang pointed out that history has repeatedly proved that whenever China and the EU can respect, understand and open up to each other, their cooperation will be smooth and both sides will benefit; whenever there are estrangements and disruptions in China-EU relations, their cooperation will encounter obstacles and both sides will suffer losses. China and the EU have extensive common interests and no fundamental conflicts of interest. No matter how the international situation changes, cooperation should be the main theme of China-EU relations. China is willing to work with the EU to upgrade economic and trade cooperation, consolidate and deepen cooperation in traditional fields such as trade and investment, and actively expand cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital economy and green development to achieve more results. Both sides can build an "upgraded version" of the China-EU export control dialogue mechanism to ensure the stability of the China-EU production and supply chains. Both sides should resolve differences and frictions through dialogue and consultation and deepen cooperation. It is hoped that the EU will adhere to market principles and provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises to invest in Europe.

Li Qiang said that in the face of the current complex and volatile international situation, China and the EU, as two major forces and markets in the world, should further strengthen multilateral cooperation, jointly safeguard multilateralism and free trade, resist unilateralism and protectionism, firmly support the core position of the United Nations in global governance, support the reform and development of the World Trade Organization, defend international fairness and justice and the global economic and trade order, and jointly promote world peace, stability and prosperity.

Costa and von der Leyen said that China and the EU are both important economies in the world, and their cooperation is related to global prosperity and stability. Over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-EU economic and trade cooperation and exchanges in various fields such as culture and people-to-people have become increasingly close, and practical cooperation has been fruitful, bringing benefits to the people of both sides. The EU is committed to developing a long-term and stable partnership with China and is willing to strengthen dialogue and communication with China, enhance mutual understanding, properly handle each other's concerns, promote cooperation in trade, investment and other fields, strengthen China-EU export control cooperation, jointly maintain the stability of production and supply chains, and better promote their own development. The EU is willing to work with China to jointly address global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity protection, support the core role of the World Trade Organization in international economic and trade relations, and jointly safeguard multilateralism.

After the meeting, the two sides jointly issued the "Joint Statement of China and the EU Leaders on Climate Change".
