The "Cambodia 2025 Youth Digital Empowerment and ICT Women's Day" seminar was held in Siem
Yangon, Cambodia, July 21st - At the opening of the 20th Asian Media Summit, the "Cambodia 2025 Youth Digital Empowerment and ICT Women's Day" seminar, a supporting event of the summit, was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia on July 21st. Minister of Information of Cambodia, Nampadara, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
This seminar was hosted by the Ministry of Information of Cambodia and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia, and was supported by the Asian and Pacific Broadcasting Development Organization (AIBD) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).State Secretary of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia, Sobputivuthu, emphasized at the seminar: "Cambodian youth need to work closely with the government, establish effective connections, and draw inspiration from innovation to deeply understand the development trends and future directions of the media industry." He particularly pointed out: "In this era of rampant false information, the government and media institutions bear a significant responsibility to maintain the authenticity of public opinion." Sobputivuthu also encouraged Cambodian youth, especially women, to be proactive and speak out bravely on social media platforms.
The seminar aimed to enhance the digital skills of Cambodian youth, especially female youth, and expand the coverage of youth digital empowerment through strengthening partnerships.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) paid high attention to this youth event. The organization has long been committed to promoting the development of youth digital skills and promoting employment opportunities in the ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) field, especially encouraging young women to join the information and communication technology industry.In addition to encouraging Cambodian youth, especially girls and women, to work hard and freely express their opinions in society, Nampadara also emphasized: "In an era where misinformation spreads faster than facts, government and media organizations are facing increasing pressure to maintain the integrity of public discourse."
The ITU's "Generation Connect" initiative aims to attract global youth to participate in the digital transformation process, provide training and opportunities for them, and jointly build an inclusive digital future.
Nampadara pointed out that this high-level plenary session brought together policymakers, media professionals, and various stakeholders to jointly discuss how to address the challenge of false information through improving national policies, strengthening cross-departmental collaboration, and enhancing digital literacy. The meeting conducted in-depth discussions on three themes: "Recognizing Threats", "Building Media Resilience", and "Attracting Youth Participation", aiming to develop effective strategies to maintain truth, democracy, and public trust.
