Cambodia has announced that it will launch 5G services in 2026.
ASEAN Headline News: On December 5th, Cambodian Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Communications, Chea Vannithy, stated that Cambodia is ready to launch 5G services starting from 2026.
According to FRESH NEWS on December 5th, Chea Vannithy made the above remarks at the opening ceremony of the "2025 Digital Government Forum and Related Domestic and International Events", which was hosted by the representative of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Maney and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Cabinet Office, On Sisavong.
Chea Vannithy said that as the core foundation of digital transformation, Cambodia's digital infrastructure has made significant progress. Currently, the coverage rate of 4G mobile networks has reached 94.7%. Over the past five years, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Communications has carried out in-depth reforms of the telecommunications industry by strengthening industry supervision and investing in the construction of national telecommunications infrastructure. The ministry encourages and closely collaborates with all operators to plan further investment in telecommunications infrastructure to improve 4G service quality, expand national coverage, and create more income for the country.
Chea Vannithy added that, based on Prime Minister Hun Maney's suggestion and the work already carried out by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Communications in improving 4G services, the ministry will also conduct in-depth research on the specific plan for launching the fifth-generation mobile communication service (5G) starting from January 2026. The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Communications has collected opinions from all telecommunications operators and is closely collaborating with them to ensure the smooth launch of 5G services in Cambodia. Chea Vannithy emphasized: "Based on this, I would like to clearly state that Cambodia is ready to launch 5G services starting from 2026."
Chea Vannithy also said that the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Communications has closely cooperated with other Cambodian ministries, public institutions, and the Digital Government Committee to jointly prepare necessary infrastructure and networks, increase internet bandwidth, and provide tens of thousands of computers, tablets, and other devices to ensure the smooth implementation of digital government construction.
