Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City to strengthen cooperation with U.S. partners

  

On the afternoon of March 8, Ms. Nguyen Thi Li, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of Ho Chi Minh City and President of the Municipal People's Council, met with Ms. Melissa Brown, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asian Affairs of the United States, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Leh, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and President of the Municipal People's Assembly, said that the relations between Ho Chi Minh City and the United States are developing strongly, especially in the field of economic and trade cooperation. The United States is currently the 10th largest foreign investor in Ho Chi Minh City, with direct investment in more than 500 projects totaling about $1.3 billion. The United States is Ho Chi Minh City's largest trading partner, with bilateral imports and exports totaling about $9.3 billion in 2022, up 3.8 percent from 2021.

Ms. Nguyen said that Ho Chi Minh City is the center of science and technology, education, economy and culture, the international gateway of Vietnam and an attractive investment destination for US investors. Ho Chi Minh City hopes that the US Department of State will pay attention to recommending Ho Chi Minh City to attract potential US enterprises to learn about Ho Chi Minh City's investment market, especially investment opportunities in Ho Chi Minh City building, digital transformation, environmental protection and other priority areas.

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asian Affairs Marissa Brown shared her joy at the good development of Vietnam-U.S. relations, which is evident not only at the government level, but also in a large city, Ho Chi Minh City. She said the purpose of her visit is to further promote U.S. cooperation and investment activities in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Marissa Brown wants to develop the Vietnam-U.S. partnership in the most effective and practical way possible. The United States is proud of what has been accomplished in our relationship and looks forward to upgrading that partnership with Vietnam as the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive partnership.

Ms. Marissa Brown spoke highly of the achievements of cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco, Los Angeles and other places in the United States. She said that the U.S. Department of State supports and hopes that the two sides will continue to carry out delegation visits, people-to-people exchanges and other activities to contribute to the development of bilateral relations.
