The nine EU countries have called for closer cooperation in artificial intelligence

  

Ministers responsible for the digital economy of the nine EU member States in the Mediterranean region held a ministerial meeting in Attard, Malta, on the 20th to discuss the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, and called for enhanced cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

The nine countries include Malta, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain. After the meeting, the nine ministers signed a joint statement on strengthening cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

According to the statement, the nine countries agreed to increase investment in AI infrastructure, establish AI research and development centers in the Mediterranean region, continue to encourage innovation and create an environment for businesses in the field, agreed to study how to better apply AI to public services to improve efficiency, transparency and governance capacity, and jointly cultivate AI talent. Use trusted AI technology to fight cybercrime and protect systems and data.

The nine countries also agreed to strengthen regional cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence by sharing best practices, including how to use AI to respond to regional emergencies such as natural disasters and epidemics.

Silvio Schenbry, Malta's minister responsible for the economic sector, said in a press announcement published on the same day that pooling resources, sharing data, and jointly investing in AI research and development can accelerate the promotion of artificial intelligence to truly improve people's lives.

Schenbry called on Mediterranean countries to strengthen cooperation and knowledge exchange in the field of artificial intelligence.

On the same day, the nine ministers also visited Malta's first Industrial and Digital Expo in Attard. The three-day expo, which opened on the 19th, focused on Malta's achievements in the field of artificial intelligence research and development and application.
