In 2025, the China-ASEAN Week will hold a high-level dialogue meeting
ASEAN Headline News: According to the China-ASEAN Center, on November 17th, the High-level Dialogue on the 2025 China-ASEAN Week was held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China. Deputy Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament, Nur Jazlan, and Vice Governor of Fujian Province, Lin Ruilian, delivered speeches. Ambassador Shi Zhongjun, the Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Center, attended the event.
Nur Jazlan stated that the upgrade of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 is an important milestone in China-ASEAN relations, aiming to build an inclusive and sustainable regional economy. Currently, both ASEAN and China are at the forefront of global digital transformation. The digital economy in ASEAN is large in scale and has great potential, while China has strong capabilities in artificial intelligence and digital economy. The cooperation between the two sides is a strategic opportunity for Malaysia and ASEAN to strengthen industrial capabilities and embrace digital transformation. It is necessary to build resilient supply chains, promote regional innovation centers, and contribute more to the sustained and stable development of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Lin Ruilian said that Fujian has achieved fruitful exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN regions. ASEAN has been Fujian's largest trading partner for eight consecutive years. Artificial intelligence, cross-border e-commerce, and green economy have become new growth points for cooperation between the two sides. Fujian is willing to work with ASEAN countries to expand digital economy cooperation, promote industrial digital transformation, continuously deepen cooperation in various fields, and contribute more to the sustained and stable development of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Under the first topic, "Shared Destiny - China-ASEAN Solutions to Address Global Political New Trends", guests such as Ambassador Pham Quoc Phat of Vietnam, Chairperson of the Second Committee of the Indonesian Local Representatives Council, Philippine Foreign Minister Assistant and Director of the ASEAN Department, Vahndoro, First-Level Inspector of the Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and Deputy Secretary-General of the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center exchanged views. Facing international challenges, China and ASEAN, as important members of the Global South, should jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system. Both sides should strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, digital economy, green transformation, scientific and technological innovation, tourism and culture, etc., and enhance regional development resilience. The representative of the Philippines stated that as the rotating chair of ASEAN in 2026, the Philippines will strive to promote China-ASEAN relations and ensure the implementation and effectiveness of bilateral cooperation. The representative of Indonesia stated that China and ASEAN can establish a bilateral trade coordination mechanism, increase the use of local currencies for settlement, and utilize e-commerce methods to overcome tariff barriers.
Under the second topic "Shared Destiny - Digital Economy and Technology in the New Era", Malaysian Senate Member of Parliament Datuk Lee Chengquan, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Dato' Sri Hasno, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Information of Cambodia Bra Thao Amida, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Commerce Sivani, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ma Shanpan, President of the Myanmar Ministry of Science Du Khenkhen Thyeun, Deputy Director-General of the Fujian Provincial Data Administration Li Kai, Vice Mayor of Fuzhou City Zheng Hong, and other guests exchanged views and shared their countries' strategies for the development of science and digital economy, stating that China's technological development is a huge opportunity for regional common prosperity. Both sides should strengthen cooperation on a mutually beneficial basis, including joint innovation, talent cultivation, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and digital trade, and propose to establish a China-ASEAN Digital Economy Corridor. They should seize the opportunity of the new round of technological revolution and industrial revolution to promote regional common development and truly benefit the people of both sides.
The high-level dialogue is a brand project of the China-ASEAN Week, gathering senior government officials from China and ASEAN to conduct in-depth exchanges around the theme of the ASEAN Week and offer suggestions for regional development.
